My Corporate Career.
I had my first race in January 2013 at Buckmore Park in their Junior Club Championship. I was completely new to karting at this time and had never had experience with real life racing before.
I would continue to only race in corporate for the next 3 years, in which time I managed to collect a host of top 3 trophies, a championship trophy and invitiations to the star driver days. It was never the fastest racing, but I didn’t care. Inches off the ground, grip – it felt like a million miles per hour… or so I thought!
My Owner Driver Career
I started karting in Junior X30 in the summer of 2016. Still over 6 feet tall at this time, I entered the class 8kg over the weight limit, which put me at a disadvantage straight away. However, I had a lot to learn to improve my skills and racecraft in order to climb my way up the field, and I used Junior X30 to learn and prepare for seniors, where it would hopefully be more of a level playing field.
In 2017, as soon as I turned 15, I moved up to Senior X30 underage, as I had managed to complete the tasks to get the fast pass up to Seniors. Finally, I could lose my weight disadvantage! I’m still awfully unaerodynamic, but that’s not going to change and we work through it! I still had a lot to learn, and Seniors was a lot more rough. I had to learn to be the aggressor, or get thrown around by the other drivers. To this day I am learning, improving and working to get the best performance out of me and the kart. I still have a few silly moments, but my results have improved over time and I can compete for victories.
I hope to one day have the opportunity to drive a racecar, to test my hand at something I’ve dreamed of for a long time. I have not had the opportunities that some have been fortunate enough to have, but my parents have a put a lot of time, effort and have had a lot patience with me, which I am extremely grateful for.
